Achiltibuie and the Summer Isles is a place of boats. You can bring yours and join the fun. Canoes and dinghies can be launched from gentle sandy beaches, or with larger boats from the concrete launching slip at Old Dornie, the local fishing harbour. Once at sea, it’s all yours. There are islands to explore and fish to be caught.
If you don’t have your own equipment or want some training there are a couple of options. There is sea Kayaking with Norwest (www.norwestseakayaking.com/01571 844 281/07900 641 860), or RYA recognised sailing tuition on the island of Tanera Mor (www.summer-isles.com/01854 622 252). Kayak hire is also available.
Also of interest is the local skiff, the Coigach Lass (buieboat.wordpress.com). If you’re lucky you might see them practicing or even racing.
Pleasure cruises are also available on the Isabella (www.summerisles-seatours.co.uk).
